Sector area extended through a length
A portion is a sector-shaped cross-section extended straight along the cylinder. Its volume uses the sector fraction; surface cut faces are not added
- Use exact fractions Half and quarter cylinders use one-half and one-quarter; for other sectors, divide the angle by 360
- Exact coefficient When the volume is given as a coefficient times π cubic units, enter only that coefficient as an exact integer, decimal or fraction
- Capacity Use internal dimensions, calculate the exact portion volume, then convert to litres or millilitres before final rounding

Questions about this topic
Does a reflex angle still use θ/360?+
Yes. For example, an angle of 270 degrees gives three-quarters of the full cylinder
Are flat cut faces added to volume?+
No. Cut faces matter for surface area. Volume measures the space in the sector-shaped prism
Where can I investigate the source object?+
Museums Victoria collection item X 1561 (No-bintarno): https://collections.museumsvictoria.com.au/items/158691. The catalogue’s images have reuse restrictions; no image or traditional design has been reproduced here.
Can I use a calculator?+
A calculator is allowed unless a question is marked no calculator
Which year level and chapter is this?+
Year 9 Mathematics, chapter 5: Measurement
