Estimate probabilities from grouped continuous frequency data
The frequency table summarises rainfall depths measured on several days
Let X denote the quantity in the table, measured in millimetres
| Class interval (millimetres) | Frequency |
|---|---|
| \(5\le x < 15\) | 42 |
| \(15\le x < 25\) | 35 |
| \(25\le x < 35\) | 28 |
| \(35\le x < 45\) | 21 |
| \(45\le x < 55\) | 14 |
Use the grouped table as an approximate probability model. The table assigns frequencies to whole class intervals. At a class boundary, changing strict to non-strict endpoint notation does not change the class count
The event to use is \(25 < X < 35\)
